The Qpod school desk and chair design is a major innovation, which takes a completely fresh approach to the furniture design for classrooms and the individual needs of the children and young people who use it. Its development has been the result of a major collaborative effort.
Inspired and now produced by Stage Systems, a UK company that already has a reputation for producing quality posture furniture products and a good understanding of the education world.
All the design and development work was undertaken by Renfrew Group and the third contributor to the project was the Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA).
Designed for the emerging 360 degree teaching environment recently sponsored and piloted by the Design Council, the combo affords height adjustment for both the seat and the desk surface, which in turn also has tilt adjustment.
A backrest fixed to the leading edge of the desk allows the pupil to relax during lessons in the round whilst the whole unit can swivel on a virtual axis for full face-on attention to lessons delivered from anywhere in the classroom. The Qpod school desk and chair design also shunt-stacks at a frequency of 200mm.
